My Opinion on The Censorship Of Video Games
One thing I will definitely agree with lawmakers is that children should not be exposed to explicit and violent material. Parents need to understand that there are ratings on the back of the cover. However I believ that children will still try to find a way to access these games because they are fun and entertaining. That said, in regards to almost everything else from the law about their opinions about violent video games and censorship I disagree with, some of these games are fun and entertaining and nothing more than that, and to assume that it causes real life violence by poisoning the minds of children and teens is untrue and ridiculous. Some games are trying to be more of an art form, and when violence is contained in it it is trying to make a point like a book, play, or movie would.
One criticism I would give would be that a lot of people against lawmakers, not just people working in the law is that I believe a lot of them are out of touch when it comes to video games, which is fine, but to make these assumptions seem ridiculous. I think it should take some self awareness, or wisdom to understand that this is another form of art and entertainment. The talking point that any art form such as video games, books, and songs will cause a person to inflict pain upon others it as I said again not true. It's not the art form that causes this it's the individual, and to place blame on anything else is letting these mentally unwell people off with what they have done. People who go out and shoot someone are people who were already mentally unstable, and something like a violent book, or film will be misinterpretated when a person's mind is not well, and a unhealthy mind will take influence from anything as some form of justification, dark thoughts will takeover a person's mind as they feel lost and conflicted within themselves.
While I don't always agree with the decisions a court will allow to pass, this is one that I would fully agree on. The "Brown v. Merchants Entertainment Association" is a good example of judges paying attention to common sense. When it comes to a crime committed by someone like a second-degree murder they were mostly unbiased when it came to the motives of the killers such as the Columbine High School shooting.
Overall, these are my opinions on the subject. More people should come into subjects like these with info, proof, and most of all skepticism. They should also try to use common sense and reason than political ideology, or feelings, in relation to feelings is to always go with the facts instead of what is comforting, and an attempt to be right.
